All ready, Pulcino d’Oro spreads its wings to England, at the home of the partner company Leeds United Association Football Club for the first stage of the 2020 edition. Saturday 22nd February the kick-off will be given in the city of Leeds for the second English Pulcino d’Oro tournament, in front of Premier League clubs in the Premier League – the most popular league in the world – such as Arsenal, Aston Villa, Leicester, Newcastle, West Ham and Wolverhampton, of Championship like Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, as well as two Scottish Premiership teams such as St. Mirren and Hamilton Academical. In Leeds, sixteen teams will compete for seats for the VI International Pulcino d’Oro Tournament, which will take place from 18 to 21 June, in Valsugana, Trentino.
The second English Pulcino d’Oro tournament, after the excellent first edition staged last year, raised the bar again with internationally renowned clubs, such as the “hosts” of Leeds United, capable of ringing three hits in the English championship and to get to a whisker from the victory in the Champions Cup and Cup Winners’ Cup in the mid-seventies. Who of Cups of the Champions can boast of two is the Nottingham Forest which currently plays in the Championship (second English series) just like Leeds. The Nottingham team, also winner of a European Super Cup, gives a curiosity of particular interest: it is the only team in the world to have won more Champions Cups than championships (two against one). At the English Pulcino d’Oro this year there will also be the big news from Arsenal. The Gunners have 13 English titles, 13 FA Cups – England Cups, 15 Charity / Community Shields, 2 English League Cups, 1 Fairs Cup and 1 Cup Winners’ Cup on their rich board.
Could Pulcino d’Oro stop here? Of course not! There will be Aston Villa, a team that can boast 7 English titles as well as 7 FA Cups, a Champions League and a European Super Cup. Keep an eye on the Leicester, champion of England a few years ago, who lived a fairy tale becoming a legend forever with the Italian coach Claudio Ranieri at the helm, winning the championship against all odds. West Ham, the winner in Europe in the Cup Winners’ Cup, will try to detach a pass for Trentino, Valsugana.
Newcastle and Sunderland will take part in the second English tournament for the second consecutive time, with the Black Cats that last year came to play one of the best places also in Levico Terme. Wolverhampton is a team with a great tradition, with a UEFA Cup lost in the final in the seventies, but victorious in the league and the English cup respectively 3 and 4 times. As well as Burnley already triumphant in most English competitions.
It becomes impossible not to mention teams like Sheffield Wednesday, one of the oldest teams in the history of football, having been born in 1867, and a great protagonist even in the maximum series with four successes, or Sheffield United, the current surprise of the Premier and running for a place in the Champions League.
In the 16 teams that will play a place in Trentino, in Valsugana, from 18 to 21 June, there will also be Stoke City, the second oldest professional football team in England, founded with the name of Stoke Ramblers in 1863, Middlesborough which touched a few years ago a success in the Europa League and two Scottish clubs such as St. Mirren and Hamilton Academical, formations of the Scottish Premiership, Scottish top division.
And then everything is ready for the “kick-off” in England, it will be fun!
